Camera Questions

The image attachment control brings up the camera application and allows the form user to capture one or more photos with their mobile device, or attach a photo already stored on the device.  This feature is often used in work order or inspection forms to take photographs of areas of concern.  It is also possible to sketch overtop of images.

  1. Navigate to the desired form and select Edit.
  2. Add a new question and select Attachment > Image > Camera.

  6.  Under the Camera Properties tab, set:
    • Number of Attachments:  Set the maximum number of attachments (up to 10 per question).  It is advisable to not allow excessive attachments, as this will cause larger data record sizes.

Note: When choosing the maximum number of attachments, keep in mind that the default Data Record size limit is 2MB.  Adjust this setting in the Form Properties tab.

    • Custom Button Text: This text will appear in the form on the button to launch the image attachment control.

    • Picture Quality: Set the quality of the images collected. High Compression is usually acceptable, and will also result in smaller data record sizes.  Read more about building forms for use with attachments.

      Note
: If Enforce Picture Quality is enabled, the selected quality will override any existing device settings.
      • Photo Quality: This retains the image quality of the device's camera.  Creates very large attachments.
      • Screen Quality: Medium compression; creates medium-sized attachments.
      • High Compression: This creates the smallest but lowest quality attachments.  This is usually acceptable.

    • Require a new picture be taken: This option requires the user take a new photo with device's camera.  They cannot use an existing picture.  This is an excellent security and verification control.  For example, inspections and audits completed by users will include valid photos from the time of inspection.

    • Spike laser measurement capture:
This is a limited release. Please contact support@prontoforms.com if you would like access to this control.
Spike uses the camera on your mobile users' phone combined with the Spike device to measure objects in the field. ProntoForms currently supports attaching a measured image using the Camera control.

When selected in the form builder, this option will open the Spike app on the user's device upon selecting this question. Once the user has finished working in the Spike app, the flattened photo will be attached to the form.

For more information on how this will appear to your mobile users, please look at our documentation on Using Spike with the Mobile App.
  7. Under the Help Properties tab, add help content to the question.
