Data Type: Number

 

About

Number questions store answers as a numeric value;  they can be used to capture monetary values, quantities, ID numbers, and more.  All Number question types can be used in the Calculation control type.

The Number data type can be used with many Control Types:

  • Textbox:  Allows the user to enter a single line of data. 
  • Dropdown:  Allows the user to select one answer from a list of predefined answers. 
  • Radiobutton List:  Allows the user to select one answer from a list of predefined answers. 
  • Multiselect Box:  Allows the user to select one or more answers from a list of predefined answers. 
  • Button Group:  Provides a brief selection of options in button format for the user to choose from.
  • Calculation:  Use number answers to calculate values.
  • Stepper:  Allows the user to select a number with a stepper using predefined intervals and range.
  • Slider:  Allows the user to select a number with a slider with predefined intervals and range
  • Digit Extraction:  Used to isolate numeric digits from mixed characters.

Use the Number Data Type

The Number data type is found under Add > Number when building a form.

There are 3 types of Number questions:

  • Whole Number: 1
  • Decimal Number: 1.111
  • Currency: $1.11

When adding Number data types, it is possible to distinguish Properties for the answers collected.

  • Minimum Value:  Ensures entered value is greater than or equal to a certain numeric value.
  • Maximum Value:  Ensures entered value is less than or equal to a certain numeric value.
  • Minimum Decimal Places:  Ensures entered decimal places are greater than or equal to a certain number (if minimum decimal places is set to 2, then user has to enter minimum 2 decimal places, e.g.: 1.11, 1.1).
  • Maximum Decimal Places:  Ensures entered decimal places are less than or equal to a certain number (if maximum decimal places is set to 3, then user has to enter no more than 4 decimal places, e.g.: 1.1111, 1.11).
  • Default Currency:  Allows the setting of the type of currency (USD, CAD, etc).
